Turkey Day Nine

We kayaked 8km today…but I am getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the morning when we were picked up by an open deck jeep (if that’s the best way to describe it???) and drove probably about an hour away from Kas towards a small village where we got geared up to get in the water. They gave us all double kayaks which was great for me as I am really weak in my upper body strength. Not so great for poor Dave who would have to work a little bit harder than if he had a stronger partner.

After giving us all life jackets, fitting the foot rests/rudder toogles and giving us a few quick instructions we were in the water. We had a few minutes to get used to it and for the people in the back (Dave!) to learn how to use the peddles to turn the rudder and we were off to Kekova. We landed at Tersane Bay to explore some ruins and/or have a swim in the cove. I decided to paddle but not swim so I didn’t feel uncomfortable as I knew we still had a way to go. After a 45min break we got back in the kayaks and paddled over and past some of the sunken city and then crossed over some open water to the restaurant over the water where we had a buffet lunch. We had a great rest and meal and then kayaked all the way back to the start.

It was perfect weather and a lovely day out on the water. I had pretty sore arms at the time but I really do think I paddled as much as I was capable of. Sorry Dave… :p
