NSD – International Scrapbooking Day

Last weekend I was at work missing out on all the fun of the various challenges and blogging going on but luckily a few challenges had a closing date of this weekend.

With that in mind I sat down on Friday and planned out a bunch of pages I could make to fit with a bunch of Shimelle’s and Studio Calico’s tasks. I planned to do eight pages on Saturday but then woke with a case of the blues. Feeling very unimpressed with life and just wanting to sleep in bed I only ending getting up when a lovely friend turned up with a dvd, chips and chocolate.

Because of this today I sta down determined to do something about getting my pages done and decided that even if I only got one page done I would still have achieved something.

The challenges I aimed to complete within this page were:

Scrapbooking in Pink
Scrapbooking 4×6 Photos
Scrapbooking with Spray Inks and Mists
An Easy and Effective Way to Write your Scrapvooking Journaling

Give Mixed Media a Try

And this is the result:

And that’s all for now. Time to go and help cook tea since my sister and I are giving Mum the night off for Mother’s Day!

Trying to identify my style…

Recently after a few inspiring posts about identifying my style from Sian over From High in the Sky I decided to take part in the great swap she has initiated. Now in order for this to work I needed to update this sadly neglected blog with some of my latest and greatest – or not so greatest – pages. In trying to identify what I think is my style I kept on coming back to the fact that Shimelle has pretty much been my main inspiration for my scrapbooking in the last few years – she is the scrapbooker who saved me out of desparation when I first moved to the UK! That may seem slightly dramatic…ok, maybe it is! But you see, back here in NZ I had been attending crops (meetings of scrapbookers to craft together) weekly…so the move to the UK put a huge swing on things since I no longer had most of my gear…or routine. In fact, the first cup of tea I had in England reminded me painfully of scrapbooking back home since that was about the only time I ever drank tea at home! In any case, on a random day at home before I had found work I was browsing online trying to find some local crops and came across this person called Shimelle who ran classes, at the time she had just advertised her Love your Pictures, Love you Pages class. So I eagerly paid up and started to join in. It was a great find for me and I can now see many elements of ‘Shimelle-isms’ in my pages; butterflies, thickers, mists, 6×4 photos etc etc.

In summary what I am trying to say here…in a long winded and probably quite boring way…is that I have not found what I would call MY STYLE just yet…have a browse through the gallery below and if you see something please let me know!!! I would love to hear what you all think. :)

Enough talk, now for the pictures…until next time… xxx (Mrs Reeves – yep, married now!!!)

Shimelle’s Weekend Crop – Challenge #6

“And so, my challenge to you is to find a layout you love that isn’t in a style or colour scheme you’d usually use and scraplift it with a twist that makes it yours.
To enter this challenge create a new project by changing something dramatic.”

I used one of the page links that Shimelle had on her post which you can find here.

I took inspiration from the page in the form of the strip down the middle and browsed throught the etsy store to borrow some of the wordings of a print – you can find my source on etsy. When we have a place of our own I love to think we will find something similar to this for a feature wall!

Here is the print I created:

And here is my page:

Shimelle’s Weekend Crop – Challenge #5

Here is the sketch I drew up. Inspiration I drew from Wilna was the white card stock, border stripes, stitching, punching the bottom of the photo (s) and a camera embelishment.

Here is my page I ended up with:

The photo cuts off a bit of the side of the page but both sides have a washi tape border.
I really enjoyed making this page and tried to keep it a minimalist style too. Hope you like it!

Shimelle’s Weekend Crop – Challenge #4

Challenge 4:

I needed some inspiration for this layout and I wanted to try to get as many of the sheets I had pulled on to it!!

I went onto Two Peas and searched in the Gallery for a 12×12 layout with the colour grey and found this page by Madeline:

Using this as inspiration – I followed fairly closely the same layout – this is my grey, yellow and navy page!

Products I used:

Blue Awning Blue Polka Dots Flat Paper – K & Co
Grey and yellow Distress Card stock -Tim Holtz and Ranger
Random yellow and grey patterned papers – Various
Lace – Prime (?)
Butterfly – Random supplier from Ally Pally Sept. 2010
Border sticker – Jenni Bowlin Studio
Yellow Baker’s Twine – Ally Pally stall
Marquise Chipboard letters – Thickers Am. Crafts
Yellow Brads – Random
Black Precision Pen – Am. Crafts
Tag – Ally Pally stall
Lace Washi Tape – Hambly

Shimelle’s Weekend Crop – Challenge #3

“Choose a style or a scrapper you admire but with a different look to your own pages. Mix something from that with your own style to create something new”

Shimelle chose Dina Wakley and produced this page.

I trawled through a few galleries on Two Peas but couldn’t get a spark of inspiration like I did when I looked through Dina’s work. Her scrapbook pages that incorporate her signature art journalling style always look so amazing and I have always wondered what my page might look like if I took some inspiration from them…so here it is!

(That blue and white stripe is the table cloth!)

I used some waterbased acrylic paints I have had for some time and mixed the blue and pink together in the middle to get a purple blend. I used Folk Art paints that you can buy in Hobbycraft I think? The colours were 441 Sterling Blue and 754 Rose Garden. I then painted on circles in Kaisercraft eggshell which is a paint I bought back in NZ when I also did more ‘off the page” projects. After I had finished painting and set it aside to dry I started getting fiddgity (sp?!) and got my Cosmic Shimmer Mist (Plum Twist) out and tried to use some butterfly negatives from yesterday as a mask, That didn’t go so well so I dried them into more of a splodge look and then…then I decided I wanted to use my UTEE in white on some of the spots. This was the drying phase when I couldn’t leave it alone:

So there you have it! My Shimelle/Dina inspired page! I will leave you with some details shots and I am sure there will be more pages coming later.

I stapled some cream silk ribbon to the back of the butterfly negative for a handmade embellie!

Ultra thick embossing enamel spot

Sparkly pink thickers (I never use pink!!!)

I used the left over paint smudged over this tag then stamped some background images and a bird to use as another handmade embellie

Enjoy!

Scrapping Update

I wrote in one of my ‘Make a List’ posts a while back about all the different craft projects I have on the go and gave my self a timeframe to get them all completed…see the post here.

I haven’t done so well…I have been busy and tired and when I have had free time have felt like I haven’t got the ‘mojo’ to scrap so I have only really sat down a few times to get the projects under way. In saying that…I have done something (which is better than nothing!) so here is the first project that was already parly done to start with…

So you can see that some progress has been made, albiet slow! I have all the photos in a file ready to send off to the printers and each week has a fixed ‘recipe’ in terms of products/colours/themes that I use as a starting point for the card.

Hopefully with the start I have made now and with everything all on the go this will help keep my momentum going so I can complete these this month (only two months off my target…)

Make a list Monday – 002

I’ve made it to week two and last week must have had a record number of blog posts! I’ve been giving myself a big pat on the back. Expecially because I have worked 6 hours unpaid overtime this weekend and instead of mooching and falling asleep on the couch I have got out the lap top and here I am! Busy writing Monday’s post in advance and hopefully a few spares for the busy days this week.

Last weeks list was pretty mundane but I did manage to do most of the tasks. I did have a wonderful lie in and really the only thing we didn’t do was take in a packed lunch…which would have saved us the stress of half running all across London to get back to Pret where my cash card, travel card and NZ driver’s licence was residing in a rubbish bin! But it made for a good story so there we go.

This week’s list is something to help me keep accountable. I have a few unfinished projects in my crafting that I want to get finished in a timely manner…some are even from 2010! I thought that if I share them with you now I can keep you updated on my progress and since today is my day off this week I can get a good head start. So here we go:

1. 52 Cards – a challenge from Scrappin’ Patch from back in NZ. This was about using a pack of jumbo cards to journal/scrap the year in weekly highlights and each week has a different theme/material/colour etc to use. I have done up to April sometime I think so my mission today is to decide each weeks photo and plan the cards then get crafting! Timeframe: Completion by end of February.

2. Travel Journal – I prepped all the pages and journalled in a scrap diary while we travelled around Europe in May 2010. I haven’t even finished the Hong Kong pages (which was our stop over on the flight over) so I need to use the journalling I have along with the ‘keepsakes’ to get this completed.
Timeframe: Completion by end of March.

3. Shimelle Classes – There are a few of these, I have started but not finished: ‘Love your Pictures, Love your Pages’, ‘Journal Your Christmas 2010′, ‘Blogging for Scrapbookers’, ‘True Stories’, ‘Explore’, ‘Pretty Paper Party’, and finally – ‘JYC 2011′! So just a few…oh, and should I mention I have also bought but not started Something from Almost Nothing and chose to skip 2011′s Learn Something New Everyday. I’m giving myself a round of applause for completing LSNED 2010. Haha. To find out more about these classes and see why it really is ok to go at your own pace check out Shimelle’s blog where she also runs free challenges, giveaways and lots more fun stuff!
Timeframe: Completion in time for September’s LSNED class which will be my first Shimelle class back in NZ (eepppppp…how exciting)

4. Secret craft present for my bestie -  This is in progress but top secret so I can’t share much detail – however I do want to have this finished so I can post it over soon!
Timeframe: Completion by end of May

Now I have a huge box full of over 1000 photos and lots to print since then but I don’t want to feel too overwhelmed or set myself too many goals so I am planning to use that box of photos as my ‘break box’. I plan to use it to break off the monotony should I start to loose motivation in completing any of the tasks above.

My question now is will you help me?! Will you follow my progress and help me keep my goals in mind? I am looking forward to showing you my progress along the way as well as the photos of victory when I complete these projects! Wish me luck – I think I have written this list on almost every notepad in the house, but since it now lives here in cyberspace it is REAL!

What are your current projects on the go? I would love to know.

Hockey

They cancelled hockey today because of the crap weather. You should have seen the turf! We were going to play at Kristin on the new turf there which apparently isn’t very good but thanks to the rain we didn’t! : ) So instead I spent the arvo sorting out my scrapbooking things and then over at Daves for dinner and designing this blog.
